Back to topYour Story: An Internet "Connection"
It all begin on a cold winter evening in February when a young lady in New York City and a young man in Pittsburgh were about to make a lifelong connection. That evening I was home, working on my computer, when I decided to take a chance and sign myself up on one of those online dating sites. As soon as I was done answering the personality questions and creating a profile, the picture of a young man in Pittsburgh popped up as a potential match.
As I pondered how to contact him and what to say, I have to admit I got very nervous—sweaty palms and chills up and down my spine. I had never belonged to an online dating service before and I was sure that I was going to ruin my first impression. But, after some contemplation (and a carefully-crafted chat message) I decided to reach out to him through his profile. Disaster: the first time I tried, he didn't respond. After mustering some courage, I messaged him again and the second time was the charm!
That night we chatted online for hours about anything and everything and we knew instantly that we'd found something special in each other. At the end of the conversation I gave him my number. He called me the very next day and we've spoken ever since. On May 15, 2008 while visiting me in New York City, the young man from Pittsburgh asked me to marry him on the top of Rockefeller Center. I said yes!
