Back to topYour Story: Romantic Reconnection
Every Sunday I visit my sister. She lives just around the corner from me—a few minutes drive past the family house of Linda, a girl I dated in high school. Each week I’d see Linda’s brother Billy sitting on the porch, reading the newspaper. I always meant to stop and catch up, but I never seemed to get around to it.One Sunday, when I had a few minutes to spare, I decided to stop by Billy’s and say hello. Later that week, Billy mentioned that he and I had chatted to Linda, who was back living at the family house. Knowing that my brother also lived in town, she called him to get my phone number to track me down.
Linda called, and after some small talk we decided to get coffee and catch up. Linda told me how after her husband passed away, she decided to move back to be with her family. I told her that I understood how she felt, as my wife had also passed away. Coffee turned into a date and two dates later we were both wondering why we had drifted apart so many years ago.
One night, knowing Linda shared my love for country music, I took her out to the Honky Tonk Café. I had arranged for my buddy Tex (who was performing there that night) to call me up on stage. When the time came, I got up in front of about 60 people and told them the story of how Linda and I dated as kids and reconnected more than 45 years later. After telling the place how amazing and caring Linda is (and how lucky I am) I ended my story with "Linda Jean, will you marry me?"
The place went crazy! And she said "yes."
We got married on January 26th, 2008 and we've been on cloud-nine ever since.
