My fiancé and I are self-proclaimed homebodies. We love our couch, we love bad TV and we love each other. After moving into a new place, we decided that our next major investment was going to be something near and dear to our hearts—a new mondo big screen flat panel TV.One of the ways we feel less guilty about splurging on nonessential stuff is our “change bucket”. Whenever we have coins jingling around in our pockets or shoved into the cup holder in our cars, we empty them into a big plastic bucket. Our goal is always to save enough change to afford something fun we’ll both enjoy. The first round of our “fund” was spent on a cross-country vacation and this time, after having saved our coinage for a little over a year, we ended up with more than $1,200!
Needless to say, we now spend many evenings curled up on the couch together doing one of our most favorite things...watching cheesy TV shows on our pretty new flat screen. Next up...a honeymoon fund. Now that’s a lot of quarters.
